Background Information – Note: In 1988, a friend named Doug Buchanan had the opportunity to parachute into an area near the North Pole to help set up an aircraft landing strip for a government expedition. While there, Doug was able to collect this environmental essence from the Arctic Ocean ice pack. The following information has been excerpted from his own account of the experience.
The Polar Ice essence was collected on the Arctic Ocean ice pack near the North Pole, at 88 degrees north latitude, 94 degrees east longitude.
The Arctic Ocean ice pack is a skim of ice, ± 15 feet thick, covering an area over 1,000 miles in diameter. It is a crazed jigsaw of ice floes, pressure ridges of jumbled ice, and windblown snow. This ice is in motion, floating on a deep ocean. Two major currents in the Arctic Ocean keep the ice moving from its freezing origins to its thawing release. In different areas this transition may take from three to ten or more years.
Healing Qualities – The Polar ice pack is an austere environment where little except ice can be noticed with superficial observation. Since the distractions of our common surroundings are absent, one's mind quickly becomes attuned to the richness of subtleties.
This essence addresses our relationship to time and transition. It represents the energy of pure time, of pure waiting, without any goal other than to wait for the transition to complete its cycle. It is about time that rests from reasoning or intent, time carried by forces of pure transition.
